Scuzzy three piece Caroles are based in Auckland and feature members of Tied on Teeth, Bandicoot and Totems. Don’t expect to hear too much of an influence of those other acts though – Caroles is hard and heavy. Hollow Trophy, the band’s most recent release, is nine tracks of dark, sludgey punk and screaming. These boys don’t fuck around, and like many of the other NZ artists I’ve recently stumbled upon, they have an undying love for our good friend and soul sister Mary Jane.
The follow-up to their debut self-titled EP, the recording process for Hollow Trophy is as follows:
day 1: leave city, trip balls
day 2: record album
day 3: eat fungus > meditate for hours
day 4: go home
