Exclusive: How to drink like a Little Bastard

Like DMA’s and bucket hats, or like Dune Rats and bongs, nothing goes hand in hand like a tall frosty beer and Little Bastard. Ahead of their upcoming album launch tour (dates below), the Sydney lads have put together a quick guide for everyone in Australia who wish to drink like their favourite delta-bluegrass-rock septet. Without further ado, here’s Little Bastard’s Guide to Getting Off Chops*:

We had a chat to Little Bastard about their favourite places to get beer’d up on tour. Happy Presents: Little Bastard’s Guide To Getting Off Chops.

Ross: My favourite place to drink in Melbourne is Old Bar on Johnston in Fitzroy. Always a bunch of legends there and they have Abbotsford stout, which you can’t get in Sydney. Its delicious. Sweet as stage and good sound too, and there’s always sick bands playing. Many many a late night there whenever we’re in Melbourne. Also they go pretty easy on the old RSA, which is mad. Old Bar + $2.50 slice pizza up the road. Sorted.

Check out all the awesome upcoming gigs at The Old Bar website and on Facebook.

Ed: My favourite place to drink on tour is Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall. The dudes that run the place always ensure people are sufficiently sauced with delicious brews, that sick tunes are playing and that, come the early hours of the morning, you’ve got a burger in your hands with sauce oozing down your shirt. Plus it’s in Brisbane, which means two things: it’s a shitty city that only makes the bar look even better and, it has the most welcoming crowds that the cities of east coast oz have to offer.

Take a geez at Lefty’s Music Hall on Caxton St next time you’re in Brizzy and follow them on Facebook for all upcoming gigs.

Johnny: One of my many favourite places to drink in Melbourne is the Labor In Vain in Fitzroy. Mainly because of the rooftop space and memories I have of early Little Bastard days during a residency we had there early last year.

Hit up Labour in Vain’s facebook for all upcoming gigs – live music from Thursday to Sunday.

Trev: I’m pretty into drinking a XXXX Gold off tap, off wood, off chops at the Breakfast Creek Hotel in Brisbane. It’s a massive pub with a butcher right in the middle. You can pick your sirloin and then send it to the kitchen and they’ll surf and turf it for you. Plenty of classic neck tats and Eddie spent the morning throwing up in the car park once.

Classic Eddie. Check out one of Australia’s most iconic establishments (pictured above) next time you’re up Breakfast Creek without a paddle. Also don’t drink and canoe – take the ferry if you’ve had a few.

Matty: The Workers Club in Melbourne. It’s pretty great because we normally stay there and after a long drive to Melbourne we can just chill out in the courtyard sinking pints and smoking ciggies. Great burgers there and right next to that mini pizza store.

The Workers Club hosts some pretty baller gigs as well as providing pints – check out the upcoming shows on their website or the Facebook.

Dan: One of my favorite pubs on tour would have been Karova Lounge in Ballarat. Me and Matty high ranged it over there after the Ballarat Beer Fest to try get chicks but failed and just got pissed instead. On our next visit we shall succeed.

Ballarat Beer Fest is held annually in January at Ballarat City Oval. Karova Lounge is Ballarat’s premier live music establishment, with bands and artists in residence most nights of the week. Check out their Facebook for the latest.

Liam: The Corner Hotel in Melbourne is definitely at the top of my list. The bar upstairs is great, rad food and the staff were always happy to deal with us idiots. I’ve played some of my favourite gigs with the band there and I’ve seen some pretty weird stuff go down in the backstage area.

The Corner Hotel are playing host to Twin Beasts, Liars, The Preatures and sleepmakeswaves this month – check out their website for tickets to some of the best live music in Melbourne.
