The four pieced Sydney band The Indians with members Will, Kabir, Watson, Martin and Ridge are quite a fresh face to the music world. Whilst they have toured all over, playing in multiple venues throughout Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, their music is still quite new for many. This unearthed-quad have an indie, summer-y feel to their music that will have you grooving away.
Welcome to My Place is one of their tracks that were released October last year. Starting with an introduction that’s really reflective of Fader by Temper Trap this song then dives into its lyrics that are by far the showcasing feature to this track. The tone of the vocals instantly reminded me of Rocky Horror Picture Show’s Science Fiction/Double Feature with its abstractness- yet is oh so good!
This track have really great, quirky lyrics. A song is undoubtably listen-worthy if its chorus is: “Welcome to my place, please don’t touch the time machine. There’s rollies in the sock drawl my- chocolate shakes are pretty mean. I don’t mind if you’re high, live it up for you to see. Be careful of the iron because it’ll want to set you free.” Epic!
The newest song by The Indians is the Darling. This track was released in September this year. Now whilst there was almost a year between the two there is still the characteristics that make The Indians what they are. There is also a really welcomed back-to-the-basics-feel to this track with the use of drums, guitar and bass. Darling really showcases each of the instruments for their distinctive qualities and then matches these elements with the vocals.
This is such a tight ensemble that still raw and fearless really demonstrates the experience and talent of The Indians seeping through into their music. This track is quite slower in comparison to Welcome to My Place yet has a really impressive hook that literally hooks you in… The Indians are that good they are even pun-worthy!
Whilst there isn’t anything live planned for them in the close future, it is certainly going to be something to keep our eyes and ears out for. Very keen to see what’s next in store for the young indie rockers!
