5 January gigs you can’t miss at Newtown’s Bank Hotel

The Bank Hotel, in the heart of Newtown, has got your January covered with these live gigs you won’t want to miss. In the mindset of starting the year off right, they will host acts such as Flight to Dubai, Jack R. Reilly and Space Carbonara.

Tuesday night is Cobra Club, hosting a free gig each and every week. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are paid live music nights kicking off from 8pm.

The Bank Hotel is committed to bringing you live music in the heart of the inner-west, this month hosting a series of epic performers to get you back in the swing of things in 2019.

HOON – Thursday January 10

Head down to The Bank on your way home from work on Thursday arvo to catch Hoon live and in the flesh. They’ll be bringing along three of their favourite Sydney bands Julia Why?, Viral Eyes and Decapitators. Hoon reckon after you see them, they’ll be some of your favourites as well.

Their live shows are known for huge energy and the finest punk rock vibes. In late 2017, they released their self-titled 14-track album Hoon. Tickets are available here.

Flight to Dubai – Friday January 11

Start you weekend off right as Flight to Dubai’s Frontal Lobes tour hits home territory. The Frontal Lobes EP Launch will showcase their mind-altering world view packed into a neat six tracks.

This post-punk, four-piece Sydney band will rock your socks off with a manic onstage performance. Get your tickets here.

Robert Irish/ Devotional/ Georgia Mulligan – Tuesday January 15

Robert Irish and Devotional fly in from ‘Merica to give you one night of mayhem. Oh, and Georgia Mulligan will also be gracing you with her presence. The show is totally free. You heard me.

NY-based Australian and multi-instrumentalist Robert Irish’s debut album Me and Baby is set for release in 2019. Georgia’s debut EP, Our Blood to Part, was a 2016 favourite for its power and honesty.

Jack R. Reilly – Thursday January 17

Jack R. Reilly is giving you a Sydney show to mark the release of his six-track Pursuing Balance EP. This solo artist is known for creating sonic soundscapes of emotion through his music, like a sedated Jimmy Eats World.

Space Carbonara – Friday January 25

Oh look it’s Friday again, and the tasty Space Carbonara are bringing you their soon-to-be-released album Dolphin Man Returns. It’s hard to pin down this space pasta. It’s everything from low-fi fuzz to psych-punk jams that’ll get you feeling deep feelings.

Keeping in fine company, Space Carbonara will be bringing 19-year-old psych artist Carl Renshaw along for the ride. Get your tickets here.
