7am Bourbon are absolutely relentless on their debut EP Immediate Detox

Debut EPs can be a little tough. Many bands take a little while to land on a concrete sound, hence debut releases often lack direction. North Coast based outfit 7am Bourbon, however, are not one of these acts.

With the release of their debut EP Immediate Detox, the band have immediately established themselves as one of the Aussie rock scene’s most promising emerging acts. If you’re not already familiar with this name, we strongly recommend you change that.

On their hard-hitting debut EP Immediate Detox, North Coast-based outfit 7am Bourbon stomp through a relentless concoction of rock madness.

Throughout the new EP, 7am Bourbon—made up of lead vocalist/harmonica player Wylie Wilson, drummer Levi Rosen, bassist/back-up vocalist Jakob Hans, and lead-guitarist/back-up vocalist Kelton Lee—stomp through a relentless blend of blues and straight-up rock n’ roll. With crunching guitar lines, thunderous bass lines, bone-rattling percussion, and flailing vocal hooks, the band’s music is bursting at the seams with pure sonic energy.

EP opener Dark Road kicks things into gear with woozy, atmosphericly plucked harmonics, before the full band comes bursting through the musical door. From here, the group pull in myriad directions—Grow Up is a punchy, sub-three-minute slice of frantic blues-tinged madness, while songs like Chasing lean more heavily on addictive vocal melodies.

By the time the EP’s slow-burning closer What’s Your Name reaches its conclusion, you’ll have been roped in completely by the band’s searing sounds.

These still may be early days for 7am Bourbon, but judging by the quality of eveything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great tunes. In the meantime, do yourself a favour and listen to the new EP above.
