Timechyld’s Inspirations

Basically I love all things funky no matter what genre they’ve been boxed into. My favourite era of music is definitely the 70s, and since I first picked up a guitar at the age of 10 I’ve gravitated toward riff-driven music. I’ve always been into quite an eclectic mix of music, the first albums I owned being Regurgitator‘s Unit, the Chili PeppersBlood Sugar Sex Magic, Jamiroquai’s Synkronized and, of course, the soundtrack to the South Park movie Bigger, Longer and Uncut. After the first breath of my first spliff I’ve worshipped the likes of Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, as well as other riff and groove driven music of disco, funk and soul such as James Brown, Funkadelic, Kool and the Gang, etc.

While I’m a man of nostalgia and admittedly still mostly listen to the stuff I grew up on, the funky shit is the stuff that has stood the test of time for me. Because, to put it simply, funky music makes you feel good! It doesn’t take itself seriously, and thus reflects the child I am bound to always be, despite my increasingly abundant white chest hairs. It has strongly influenced the way I write music (whether that comes through or not!). Whether the groove is techno, soul, pop or rock, the playlists I make for myself and for others are comprised of some oldies and some contemporary, some guilty pleasures and some bangers. Blast these tunes while you cook, shower, or make sweet lovin!
