Calling all Newcastle muso’s: AHA Newcastle Hunter announces the Paul Woseen Memorial Music Grant worth five grand

In an extraordinary tribute to the late Paul Woseen, founding member and bassist of the legendary Screaming Jets, AHA Newcastle Hunter is unveiling the Paul Woseen Memorial Music Grant.

This pioneering initiative seeks to provide unparalleled support to local artists in the Greater Newcastle Area, ensuring Woseen’s profound impact on the city’s music scene endures.

Mick Starkey, President of AHA Newcastle Hunter, emphasized the immense influence Woseen had on Newcastle’s musical landscape, both through The Screaming Jets and his solo endeavors. “His loss is one that was, and continues to be, felt far and wide,” Starkey expressed. “As a mentor to many young artists, Paul fostered the success of numerous careers. We want to perpetuate this legacy and support the next generation of talent.”

The Paul Woseen Memorial Music Grant, supported by key entities like The Screaming Jets, City of Newcastle, The Stag & Hunter Hotel, TAFE NSW, and The Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, is a comprehensive initiative.

The annual recipient will receive $5,000 in cash, along with the opportunity to record, produce, and launch an original single. Mentor sessions with industry professionals will further solidify a robust support network for the emerging artist.

Starkey underlined Newcastle’s historical role in nurturing original artists and hosting vibrant local acts. “We believe this grant will offer stepping stones and create a support network that can truly launch the career of its annual recipient,” he said, emphasizing the significance of sustaining the city’s vibrant music culture.

Applications for the Paul Woseen Memorial Music Grant open on February 23, 2024, and close on April 4, 2024.

Applicants must be over the age of 18 and reside within the Greater Newcastle Area including Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland, and/or Cessnock.
