Akon is the latest victim of Atlanta’s celebrity vehicle-theft spree

Akon is the latest victim of a celebrity automobile seizure that has swept Atlanta drivers dry over the past year or so.

The Beautiful singer – real name Aliaune Thiam – had his Luxury SUV stolen on Monday night while visiting a QuickTrip station on Sidney Marcus Boulevard.

This comes only a mere few months after Atlanta rapper Ludacris had his Mercedez-Benz stolen while visiting an ATM near 8th and Peachtree Street in Midtown.

Fortunately, Ludacris had left his iPad in the car. He was therefore was able to track it down with police to a Hyundai SUV parked outside a home on Loios Place in northwest Atlanta.

Alongside the iPad, a Louis Vutton bag and laptop were retrieved from the vehicle and returned to Luda.

In December last year, singer/actor Tyrese Gibson also had his Range Rover stolen right out of the driveway of his Buckhead home. The key fob had been left in the cup holder, he told police.

In January 2020, billionaire and founder of lingerie brand Spanx, Sara Blakely, had her rover stolen at her company’s headquarters.

This time, her key fob was left in the centre console in the parking deck of the Shops Buckhead Atlanta on Peachtree Road, making her the second victim of a Buckhead celebrity robbery that year.

So what’s Akon’s story?

Well, it’s a little more bizarre.

The Smack That singer left his Range Rover running at the gas station when someone literally slipped inside and drove off!

Once the vehicle was stolen, it was followed by what looeked to be a black, four-door BMW sedan, going eastbound on Sidney Marcus Boulevard, towards Bufod Highway.

While reviewing the surveillance video, the suspect car can be seen pulling up besides Akon’s vehicle at precisely 11:37pm. The passenger then gets out, slips into the driver’s seat and drives off.

Left inside were his mobile phone, passport and other expensive items including a diamond necklace valued at $25,000, and thousands of dollars worth of Louis Vutton luggage.

We don’t want to jump to any conclusions here, but it’s starting to look like Louis Vutton is a bit of a turn-on for these robbers.

Thanks to the app Find my iPhone, the SUV was found by police at Forest Park early Tuesday morning.
