More than one million people sign petition to remove Amber Heard from ‘Aquaman 2’

Amber Heard is back in the news cycle after a petition to remove her from Aquaman 2 has been signed by more than a million people.

Following the news of Johnny Depp’s removal from Fantastic Beasts 3, a petition has gained momentum for Amber Heard to also be removed from Aquaman 2.

It comes after Depp last week lost an explosive legal battle against the publishers of The Sun, who had labelled him a “wife-beater” in a 2018 article.

Following the court decision in favour of The SunWarner Bros. asked Depp to depart from The Fantastic Beasts franchise – although it has since been revealed he will still be paid out his salary in full.

“I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request,” Depp wrote in an Instagram post last Saturday. Depp has said he will be appealing the court decision.

Now, in response to the news, a petition has popped up to see Heard similarly removed from Aquaman 2, which is currently set for release at the end of 2022. The petition, ‘Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2′, describes the counter-allegations made by Depp in the former couple’s legal case, stating:

“Men are victims of domestic abuse, just like women. This must be recognized, and action must be taken to prevent a known abuser from being celebrated within the entertainment industry. Do the right thing. Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2.”

The petition also refers to Heard’s arrest in 2009 for domestic abuse of a partner, claiming a pattern in the actress’ behaviour. Created on Change.orgoutraged fans believe that Heard should face the same scrutiny and same consequences as Depp, citing her “systematic [crusade] to ruin Depp in Hollywood.” At the time of writing, the petition has upwards of 1,110,000 signatures.

Interestingly enough, Aquaman 2, which is part of the DC Universe, is also owned by Warner Bros. It remains to be seen whether they will respond to the public.
