Applications for Girls Rock! Sydney 2019 are now open

Applications have now opened for participants, mentors and volunteers to be a part of Girls Rock! Sydney in 2019. The event will be held at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville, and look to inspire female, trans and gender diverse youth through the power of music.

The Girls Rock! Sydney 2019 program will include lessons from experienced musicians, structured workshops, and live performances, as well as the fostering of healthy, positive relationships between participants, performers and music professionals.

Girls Rock! is returning to Sydney in 2019… and applications for participants, mentors and volunteers have now opened!

Across the five-day program, participants between the ages of ten and seventeen will have the opportunity to form their own band, learn an instrument, write an original song, and perform it at the end-of-the-week showcase (Saturday, January 19th at Factory Theatre).

On top of all this, participants will also be able to take part in a variety of creative workshops (think zine-making or screen printing).

Participants with any level of musical background – even none at all! – are welcomed and accepted, and will share their experience with positive mentors who can relate to the challenge of facing marginalisation in the music industry,” the organisation say.

Since originating in Portland, Oregon in 2001, Girls Rock! has spread across the world – expanding into the UK, Japan, Finland, and many more places. The first Australian Girls Rock! program was held in Canberra in 2016 and is now held in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and Sydney.
