Netflix and chill… forever? Thanks to a deal with Disney, Marvel and more, this could soon be our fate

If your life wasn’t already a constant struggle to tear yourself away from Netflix, now you’re definitely screwed. The streaming giants managed to nab exclusive rights with Disney, Lucasfilm, Pixar and Marvel way back in 2012 and, in September, the deal will be implemented.

We’re now destined to be glued to Netflix for all of eternity, unless Disney and Marvel stop making perfect movies, which probably won’t happen.

That’s right, you’re soon to be streaming the likes of Capatin America: Civil War, Finding Dory, Rogue One and literally every other amazing movie you could think of from those franchises after 2016. It’s said the deal was unprecedented with the likes of HBO, Hulu and Amazon being completely shut out of the proceedings, solidifying Netflix as our one and only true saviour.

Again, the deal will not affect movies released before January this year, but that’s still a hell of a lot of pie the other streaming services won’t be tasting. Ted Sarandos, who’s in charge of Netflix content said this: “From September onwards, Netflix will become the exclusive US pay TV home of the latest films from Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar.” Note the mention of US in that sentence; looks like the ‘muricans will be catching the first glimpse of this phenomenon. We can only hope these amazing movies will reach Netflix on our shores as well.

One thing’s for sure: this is exciting. Wether we have to pack our bags and head to the US or just wait a little longer remains to be seen, however, we can rest assured that this golden age of cinema will shine its glorious light over us in some way, shape or form soon. Let’s just hope it’s cheap.
