Calvin Klein enlists King Princess, Honey Dijon, and more for their 2021 Pride campaign

Calvin Klein once again celebrates the queer and trans experience with their latest Pride campaign.

Calvin Klein are no strangers to show-stopping campaigns, and the brand’s inclusive reputation has always allowed them to bring together notable LGBTQIA+ figures and musicians to model for their latest Pride campaign.

For the 2021 campaign (announced in May in time for Pride Month), the latest voices in the LGBTQIA+ community share their experiences about being out and proud in a series of short films, while also modelling the newest pieces included in the ‘Pride Capsule’.

The models come from all areas of the creative industry. From actors to artists to musicians, Calvin Klein has given each of these creators are a wider platform to speak.

“The minutes that shape us. The memory that transports us. The moments that define us. What was yours?” Calvin Klein’s official YouTube channel asks of viewers.

Shot by six photographers, the #ProudInMyCalvins images and films are filled with denim and rainbow undies (the latest pieces of the brand’s iconic undergarments), impressive art direction and captivating storytelling.

“The first time in my life that someone had seen me before I saw myself… It was another trans woman that said to me, ‘You belong in a skirt.’ I realized at that moment that I could exist,” says American DJ Honey Dijon.

Dijon has always been a vocal advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community.

“It’s important to be visible to see what’s possible,” Dijon once said in an interview with Newshub. It’s a gem of wisdom that Brooklyn’s singer-songwriter, King Princess, shared in her film.

“[I] started to realise that I was part of this tapestry of queer people that have made really powerful, moving work. When I realized that, everything made sense,” explains King Princess.

Calvin Klein’s Pride campaigns have become world-renowned for their ability to spark conversations about social change.

For many in the LGBTQIA+ community, freedom of self-expression is one of life’s most liberating experiences. Venezuelan “experimental diva”, Arca, shares the emancipating feeling that came with meeting a man who sparked her interest.

“It was a very, very hot, steamy summer day in New York City. I didn’t know who he was. He didn’t know who I was. But something about the magnetism in the air that day made it possible for me to have the courage to come up to him,” Arca explains while posing in her Calvins.

It’s one of eight films that Calvin Klein has released, each one as artistically gorgeous as the last. The 2021 Pride Campaign is the latest addition to the fashion brand’s ongoing support of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Calvin Klein is known for working with charities such as “ILGA World, Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund and the National Pule Memorial & Museum” to promote equality.

When describing this year’s collection, Calvin Klein had this to say: “Designed with bold colors in soft cotton, performance-ready microfiber and modal stretch, these updated pieces feature all-day comfort and signature logo looks for must-have, modern styling. For Pride and all year long, we are #proudinmycalvins.”
