giselle silk

Today’s word of the day is pulchritudinous. What the shit does that mean? Alluring, blooming, angelic, elegant – and in my dictionary it means the music of Giselle Rosselli.

Giselle Rosselli

Giselle – spine -tingling, hauntingly beautiful, delicately sweet, perfection and talented beyond compare. We are simply stunned at the level of skill this young lady has.

Yes indeed, she is pulchritudinous to say the least (love how intelligent that sounds). This lady is a lot more than meets the eye. Not only is she a maths nerd (she studied Mathematics at University of Melbourne), Giselle writes and produces all her own work. She’s also one of those people that can pick up any instrument and master it, like the accordion, piano, cello, the Indonesian bamboo flute and more recently in her latest single Carnivore – the traditional Japanese koto. Her vast instrument collection has come as unplanned gifts from different people in her life. Growing up in Sydney as the daughter of an architect and a painter, it seems only natural for her to be seeking a creative path.

Carnivore was released only a couple of weeks ago and it’s already making a splash on the radio – triple j’s Home and Hosed presenter Dom Alessio praised the song and all its darkness. “Carnivorous by design, beware this hungry heart of mine” – it’s a golden tune that she has befittingly described as “Roald Dahl shaking hands with Buena Vista Social Club in a new-wave Japanese restaurant.” Pretty on the money when you listen to it. I’m going to have a crack and go with Edgar Allen Poe having a love affair with a cannibalistic geisha in a dark forest.

We certainly know this gal is going places and there are many curious eyes on her right now. Since she first appeared on Flight Facilities’ Crave You (for which she also wrote the killer melody and lyrics) she has since gathered a dedicated following for her own work. Over the last 12 months, the heart-warming single Silk has really established her as an artist and received a lot of love on the airwaves from FBi and triple j.  At the recent FBi SMAC (Sydney Music Art and Culture) Awards held in January this year, our girl took home the Next Big Thing, an awesome achievement being up against some stellar artists in the category such as The Preatures and Dro Carey. She’s also been labelled as one of the top 13 artists to watch in 2013 by the AU review.

Carnivore is now available for download on iTunes.
