Caterpillar Hood is a strange electronic experimental act from Brisbane. As with many unsigned Australian artists, there’s a minimal online presence. However, I did manage to get deep enough inside the internet to figure out that Caterpillar Hood is Sam from Brisbane rock n roll outfit Cobwebbs. Thankfully, his 11-track cassette, Evaporate, is available for complete streaming (and purchase) via local label Lost Race’s Bandcamp. After just a few short Google searches and clicks, you too can have a listen. The sound is eerie, entirely instrumental and emotionally jumps from light to dark. I Was Born Then I Was Dead is a standout track, four and a half minutes of sparkling, percussion heavy, cinematic noise, kinda like the soundtrack to ascending into the afterlife. Yes – its intense, spooky and smart music making. For all you Sydney folk (and probably Melbourne too) left feeling glum from this bizarre, cold and rainy November, listen to this album. It compliments whats going on in the skies.
