Joe Biden has contracted COVID-19. The 79-year-old US president released a video statement: “Keep the faith, it’s going to be okay.”

United States President, Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19. White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre states the 79-year-old had been experiencing “mild symptoms” since Wednesday, before his formal diagnosis came through on Thursday.

Now, Biden has reportedly begun a course of Paxlovid, which is an antiviral medication designed to decrease the intensity of the condition. An official letter issued by Biden’s physician, Kevin O’Connor, states his belief that the President is likely to respond well to the treatments prescribed to him.

Jean-Pierre says the White House will provide daily updates on how Joe Biden’s condition is progressing. Whilst isolating and in recovery, the President has confirmed that he will continue to work remotely, and follow the protocols outlined by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Mr Biden has been in contact with members of the White House staff by phone this morning and will participate in his planned meetings at the White House this morning via phone and Zoom from the residence,” explains Jean-Pierre.

From his place of isolation, President Joe Biden has recorded and posted a video message on Twitter, addressing his condition and plan of action: “Hey folks, I guess you heard, this morning I tested positive for COVID.

He continues: “But I’ve been double vaccinated, double boosted, symptoms are mild, and I really appreciate your inquiries and concerns. But I’m doing well, getting a lot of work done, going to continue to get it done, and in the meantime, thanks for your concern, and keep the faith. It’s going to be okay.”
