Been missing Smashing Pumpkins? New music could be on the way this Friday

Following rumours that the original members of Chicago alt-rock legends Smashing Pumpkins are reuniting, a mysterious countdown clock has appeared on the band’s website. What on earth could it mean?

The countdown is set to end on Friday morning (AEDT), and could possibly (hopefully) mean the release of new music, or the announcement of the band’s return.

With rumours surrounding the band’s return and the sudden appearance of a mysterious countdown clock, could new Smashing Pumpkins be on the way?

Frontman Billy Corgan has recently posted on Instagram, teasing that an album is being made with producer Rick Rubin (Nine Inch Nails, Beastie Boys, Kanye West), after having already confirmed that he had been working on new music.

Although original bassist D’arcy Wretzky has confirmed she will not be involved, it does appear as though the reunion will feature original members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin, as well as current member Jeff Schroeder.

Large scale posters featuring the band’s logo have also appeared in New York, alongside a series of Smashing Pumpkins brand ice-cream trucks, similar to the one seen in the Today video, that can be found around New York and Los Angeles.

Their last album Monuments To An Elegy was released in 2014, in support of which Corgan toured in Australia as a headliner on the last ever Soundwave tour.

So until Friday, brace yourselves… new Smashing Pumpkins could be on the way.
