Discogs is set to launch Gearogs: an audio equipment marketplace with a really underwhelming name

Last year Discogs announced a series of new databases for audio gear, films, books and comics. The archive specific to audio equipment, Gearogs, looks like it’s taking the poll position in the monetisation of these databases.

Speaking to Thump, founder and CEO Kevin Lewandowski has revealed that Gearogs will officially launch as a marketplace in April.

Discogs are making a huge move into the gear market with Gearogs, a marketplace for synths, pedals and everything hi-fi.

“I’ve been focusing on what we call our meta-projects,” Lewandowski said, “like applying the Discogs concept to other things. We’ve started [a music gear database] Gearogs, because gear is so close to records. We’re launching a marketplace in April.”

But seriously did nobody think Gearcogs would be a better name? Gearogs sounds like a goblin king from Lord of the Rings.

That being said, the idea is badass and we’re downright ecstatic about it’s potential.

In it’s current state the site is still pretty fun to browse, being a pretty complete database for music gear. That pedal you’ve had your eye on for years will be there…soon enough it might even be on sale.

The marketplace will launch in April.
