DrAlienSmith reveals prize for this year’s Needle In The Hay

As the end of another Needle In The Hay hotly approaches, DrAlienSmith reveals what prize one lucky entrant will receive.

In case you haven’t noticed, we’re inching ever-closer to the closing date for entries into this year’s Needle In The Hay.

The final date for budding musicians to submit their tunes is March 22, which means we’re just weeks out from crowning a winner, who’ll take home what might just be our biggest prize haul ever.

NITH DrAlienSmith Capsule8 prize

That’s right, on top of the coveted title of winning Australia’s largest independent music competition, this year’s NITH victor will walk away with a truck’s worth of prizes.

This includes some much-deserved drinks, celebratory apparel and some truly killer music gear and instruments. As if all that wasn’t enough, the folks at DrAlienSmith have swooped in to offer the cherry on top.

We can officially announce that DrAlienSmith has joined our NITH prizing pool, which is a pretty starry addition given the company’s renown for premium audio gear.

NITH DrAlienSmith Capsule8 prize

This year, DrAlienSmith will give one lucky NITH entrant their Capsule8 microphone. In what will read like music to any artist’s ears, this dynamic mic is designed for low frequency sources that also need to have a focused mid range to fit easily into a mix.

Given its tonal characteristics and convenient size, the Capsule8 is perfect for capturing kick drums and floor toms, as well as bass and guitar amps.

What’s more, it’s essentially a two-for-one, since the figure 8 pick up pattern makes the front of the mic sound bright and full while the rear is darker sounding.

If DrAlienSmith’s Capsule8 sounds familiar, it’s because Happy has been lucky enough to review the microphone, praising it for its “surprising and amazing tone and hot output.”

You shouldn’t really expect anything less from DrAlienSmith, the brainchild of Perth engineer Al Smith. The maestro has built a reputation for his products that help musicians capture unique sounds without over complicating the recording process.

If the promise of a Capsule8 isn’t enough to propel your NITH submission, we don’t know what will. Find out more about DrAlienSmith, including the Capsule8, here, and head here to see details for this year’s Needle In The Hay.
