Ernie Ball Music Man have just officially announced the Mariposa – an Omar Rodríguez-López signature guitar. Making its first mysterious appearance at the UK Guitar Show just over a week ago, rumours about the guitar have been circulating online ever since.
The signature model, designed for the At The Drive-In/Mars Volta guitarist, bears a distinct offset angular shape and a laser-etched pickguard with an ornate floral design.

The guitar bears pickups custom-designed for Omar’s love of distortion, whilst still retaining the classic humbucker sounds. Other features include an African mahogany body, roasted maple neck with an ebony fingerboard, Music Man Modern tremolo, and Schaller M6-IND locking tuners.
Instead of tone knobs, the guitar has dual volume controls, and when set at different levels the passive interaction between the two enables a natural variation in high end.
The guitar comes in two versions, standard and deluxe, and each has two options of finishes. The standard Mariposa comes with chrome hardware and chrome knobs in Pueblo Pink or Dorado Green, whilst the Mariposa Deluxe comes with gold hardware and gold hat knobs in Imperial White and Imperial Black.
