Obama’s favourite songs of 2021 are in and there are two Aussies in the mix

Former President Barack Obama is back with his end-of-year Spotify playlist and he doesn’t miss.

In case you didn’t know, Obama has impeccable taste in music and this year he’s proven it once again with a stellar line-up of tracks including two Australian artists.

Genesis Owusu and Courtney Barnett have both made the cut with their tracks Gold Chains and Write A List Of Things To Look Forward To.

A few other notable inclusions are The War On Drugs, Little Simz, Parquet Courts, Lil Nas X, Lizzo & Cardi B, and Yendri.

It’s not the first time the former President has shown love to Aussie Artists. Earlier in the year, he included Sydney rapper Masked Wolf’s mega-hit Astronaut in the Ocean and he’s also shown his love for Courtney Barnett twice before, adding both Elevator Operator and Need A Little Time in previous playlists.

Obama’s playlist tops off a big year for Australian inclusions in important overseas playlists, with A. Swayze & The Ghosts, Alex Lahey, DZ Deathrays and Baker Boy getting the nod for the soundtrack of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2 reboot.

It was also announced in August that A.B. Original will be included in the prestigious playlist for the video game NBA 2k22.

With the overseas success that local artists have seen over the last few years, we’re hoping there will be plenty of other famous fans and soundtrack inclusions for Australian music in 2022.

But until then, check out the list below and enjoy Obama’s personal curation of boogies.
