Even if you have never bought anything from Bandcamp, here’s why you should tomorrow

With the world taking up arms against Donald Trump’s disgusting and blatantly racist immigration ban, everyone’s favourite indie music service Bandcamp is the latest to the party.

In the vain of Grimes and Sia matching donations to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Bandcamp has announced that all profits made from sales on their site tomorrow, Friday February 3rd, will be donated to the same cause.

Bandcamp will donate all profits from sales on Friday February 3rd to ACLU in defiance of Donald Trump’s immigration ban.

“Like 98% of U.S. citizens (including the President), I am the descendant of immigrants—my great-grandparents came to America from Russia and Lithuania as teenagers and worked in sweatshops until they were able to afford to bring the rest of their families over.”

That’s the opening sentence to Bandcamp founder and CEO Ethan Diamond’s open letter regarding the issue.

The jist of this deal is that you should really buy something from Bandcamp tomorrow. The bands won’t be losing their share, just the company itself (for a damn good cause). Consider it a charitable donation, and one that supports some musicians to boot.

If you need some suggestions, Bandcamp curated you a whole heap of acts from countries banned under Trump’s ugly legislation. Check them out here.
