Fever Pitch explore love’s reparative effect on brooding new single ‘Escape’

Fever Pitch has offered the first taste of their forthcoming EP in the brooding yet beltering new single Escape.

Fever Pitch has today (March 8) shared their new single Escape, serving as the first taste of the band’s forthcoming EP. The track opens with blissful strums courtesy of guitarists Marcus Conti and Jesse Mate-Gallo, with Conti manning the microphone as he sings of the reparative effect of a relationship. “My dreams turn blue and memory goes grey,” he croons atop Jordan Pranic’s drums. “You put me back together, I throw it all away.”

Conti later opts for grungier vocals as Escape’s chorus blends pop-punk with noisy instrumentation and the sonic throughline of Jack Rankin’s harmonic bass. On the latter half of the track, the band slows down the temp for a quieter reprieve, helped along by an ambient transition effect. Escape then adopts a spacier and more alternative groove, with background melodies and the repeated refrain: “Nothing changes what I wanted to say, you’re my escape.”

For a lesser band, the switch in tone might prove disorientating, but Fever Pitch balance the tempo-change with masterful subtlety and an understanding of rock’s expansive reaches. Escape presents the kind of intra-rock affair that suits a band whose sound spans both decades and genres. Fever Pitch draw inspiration from the alternative, shoegaze landscape of the 90s, but remain fluid and futuristic in their “influences, with touches of modernity,” a press statement reads.

Escape marks the latest offering from Fever Pitch since its inception in early-2022. The quintet sees the union of bandmates Marcus Conti, Jordan Pranic, Jack Rankin and Jesse Mate-Gallo, who once formed part of the former band, After Touch. Under the Fever Pitch moniker, the band has shared two standalone self-recorded singles including debut track Until It Breaks and follow-up effort Over Again
