The nominations for this year’s BET Hip-Hop Music Awards have been revealed, with rappers, and on-again-off-again beefers, Kanye West and Drake leading the pack.
Drake’s 2021 album, Certified Lover Boy took the top spot with 14 nominations, earning the Canadian rapper a nod for Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, and Hip Hop Album of the Year, among others. Kanye West, meanwhile, scored 10 nominations — largely for his work on last August’s Donda — vying for Producer of the Year, Song of the Year and more.
The ceremony, which recognises the work of African American musicians and entertainers, will be filmed in Atlanta at the end of this month, before premiering on BET on October 4. Alongside Drake and West, Californian wordsmith, Kendrick Lamar followed with nine nominations, including Album of the Year and Artist of the Year, both for his acclaimed 2022 LP, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

Elsewhere, Future rounds out the top four with eight nods, while Baby Keem, Cardi B, and J. Cole tied with six nominations each. Finalising the leaderboard with three nominations each were Doja Cat, Tems, and Young Thug, followed by two nominations for Jay-Z, Megan Thee Stallion, and Usher. The upcoming show, hosted by rapper Fat Joe, will mark BET’s second awards ceremony for 2022, having recognised the work of artists for the first half of the year in June. The Weeknd, Mary J. Blige and Will Smith were among the winners during that ceremony, while Lil Nas X publicly lamented his zero nominations by releasing a diss track titled Fuck BET on June 24.
