In a new interview, Kate Moss sheds light on the fashion industry’s dark side, and recalls uncomfortable moments from her early career.
Kate Moss has made some shocking confessions about moments she was pushed well past her comfort zone during the early stages of her career. In a recent interview on the BBC radio show, Desert Island Discs, the British supermodel and businesswoman recalled experiences she had on set that made her deeply uneasy.
Describing a disturbing incident that happened at just 15 years old, when Moss participated in a “bra catalogue” photoshoot, she recalled how the photographer gave her sinister vibes.
“He said ‘take your top off’ and I took my top off, and I was really shy then,” explained Kate. “I could feel there was something wrong, so I got my stuff and ran away.”
Reportedly, the model went on to reveal another horrible on-set experience, where in which a photographer by the name of Corrine Day “forced her to snort like a pig to get the perfect shot.”
Moss added that she “cried a lot” following this incident because she didn’t want to do that, and she didn’t want to pose nude either.
“I didn’t want to take my top off,” she explained. “I was really, really self-conscious about my body, and she would say, ‘If you don’t take your top off, I’m not going to book you for Elle,’ and I would cry.”
During the interview, Kate Moss got candid about yet another unsetting work experience that went down in 1992, during a photo shoot for Calvin Klein, where she posed alongside actor, Mark Wahlberg.
The model described feeling “vulnerable and scared,” with everybody’s focus being on Whalberg and his entourage. “It would manifest as like, nausea, and I couldn’t get out of bed,” she continued.
Now that she runs her own modeling organisation, Kate Moss Agency, which her daughter is a member of, she shares the words of wisdom that she has passed down to her daughter.
“I’ve said to her, you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do,” says Moss. “If you don’t want to do this shoot, if you don’t feel comfortable, if you don’t want to model, don’t do it.”
