Back in August this year we introduced Sydney based experimental pop quartet Golden Blonde, just before the release of their debut album Gwen. Their dissociative and offbeat tunes were a refreshingly intelligent and emotionally complex addition to the Sydney psychedelic underground, channeling paranoia, psychosis and fear – a far cry from the sunshine psychedelia churning out of the inner suburbs these days.
This Saturday, make sure to take your medication before you go see Golden Blonde play alongside a multitude of cooked out weirdos because you might not be coming back from this one off buffet of strangeness. With a lineup that could be more artistic than musical, Sydney label Octopus Pi are putting on their last show of the year, bringing together electronic experimentalism in the form of Horse Macgyver (epilepsy warning on that link) and classic ambient in the form of Brisbane’s Naked Maja.
Sydney band Making‘s textural brand of alt weird rock will be gracing the headlining spot, so be sure to stick around for their latest single Stay Stil. Visuals will be provided by the brilliant Optic Soup, an offbranch of Octopus Pi who specialise in creating interactive art displays, live projection and psychedelic safespaces.
Post rockers, experimentalists, acid casualties and white noise enthusiasts should head down to The Red Rattler theatre in Marrickville from 8pm tomorrow night (Sat 14 Dec, 2013) and tune out of reality for an evening. Find out more below:
