One evening whilst procrastinating, I found myself in the usual place; voyaging down various avenues of the internet. This time I was lucky enough to end up on Guerre’s Soundcloud, and after a few listens I decided that I was a massive fan. Guerre is Lavurn Lee, one man from Sydney, producing ambient electronic music.
I love it because it is so intricate and atmospheric. His tracks span a spectrum of emotion. The layering of sounds allow him to make his work so powerful; allowing for tension and release, blissful sounds followed by chills and echoey beats and lyrics cutting in and out. One minute it’s beautiful, the next its sad, sometimes it’s a combination of the two.
Lee’s elegant Darker My Love EP came out on Yes Please records in 2011. In October, he released a few new tracks with less of the delicate feel of James Blake, and more of a Burial-esque dub sound (while never straying from it’s soulful, floaty foundation).
Lee can boast having supported Toro y Moi and Bonobo in 2012. If you saw him play last weekend at Strawberry Fields, I am eternally jealous. His music is available on Bandcamp for you to name your own price, which is what I’ll be doing on my Saturday night.
