Simply “irresistible”: Brisbane set to host 2032 Olympics

In a recent, juicy discovery, Brisbane is being heralded as the preferred, and only, candidate to host the 2032 Olympics.

In February this year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) named Brisbane its preferred location to host the 2032 Olympics. It is proposed that the hosting rights will be confirmed at a meeting in Tokyo on July 21.

However, this decision will likely result in an easy win for the QLD capitol, due to the absence of any other formal candidates.

The reasoning behind this “unopposed” Olympic location is the result of a new campaign that aims to streamline the selection process in an attempt to be more cost-effective. This means that countries will not longer compete with each other to house the international event. This decision is also set to grant the IOC more control, particularly over illegal activity such as vote-buying, which was privy throughout the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Regardless of any good intentions on behalf of the IOC, their seemingly brash decision shocked countries such as Germany, Qatar and Indonesia, who were hopeful that the event would unfold on their shores.

IOC president Thomas Bach, supported the boards decision, labelling Australia as a “sport-loving country” with strong governmental support, particularly in Brisbane.

Based on this reasoning, the city was an “irresistible” choice and public are excited.

The last time Australia hosted the Olympics was in 2000, with Sydney as the city of choice.

With Brisbane set as the likely location for the prestigious sporting event, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk gushed about the news, “Today is an incredibly proud day, something I thought I would never see in my lifetime“.

Palaszczuk mentioned that if Brisbane is officially selected as the location of choice, it will significantly boost tourism and the economy, injecting $8 billion in infrastructure and creating over 130,000 jobs.
