Sonic Youth

With 12 archival live concerts covering a period from 1983 to 2011, Sonic Youth have treated their fans to countless hours of discovery.

Since the split between Kim Gordan and Thurston Moore, the band have been inactive. However, most members have been supplying fans with solo projects and memoirs recollecting the influential band’s fruitful career.

The live albums span the entirety of the band’s lifetime, from a 1983 performance in Venlo, through to a 2007 Daydream Nation performance in Scotland, there is bound to be something for every ravenous fan. With songs covering the early era of EVOL and Sister, through to groundbreaking classics Daydream Nation, Goo and Dirty, Sonic Youth would often extend their songs to extreme lengths, experimenting with new sounds that would constantly evolve and change over time during their live shows.

The bands drummer Steve Shelley commented on the bands live archives saying, “Through the years and as the times changed we recorded our live shows as often as we could, on cassettes, DATs, CD-Rs and later on multi-track recorders. We collected fan-generated audience tapes, shady bootlegs and anything we could get our hands on. We now maintain an archive of hundreds of hours of Sonic Youth concerts and we’d like to share some of our favourites.”

With all this free time on so many peoples hands, now is the time to begin your Sonic Youth live exploration. It will soon become very clear why the band were a truly spectacular group to behold live.
