The first day of Splendour In The Grass is cancelled

Amid a significant weather system and unbearable conditions, Splendour In The Grass has sadly announced the cancellation of performances today.

Splendour is officially calling off the first day of the festival as campgrounds flood and a massive weather system is due to reach the east coast bringing more rainfall later today.

Well, we knew the weather was going to be unpleasant but we didn’t know it would be this bad.

The festival posted the announcement around 2pm on their social media saying: “In the interest of patron safety and in consultation with all relevant emergency services, we have decided to err on the side of caution and cancel performances on the main stages today only – Amphitheatre, Mix Up, GW McLennan and Park(lands) Stages.”

The news comes after yesterday’s queue to the festival had punters enraged and already demanding refunds on social media.

Many festival goers have also been sharing footage of the torrential rains and unfathomable scenes.

The statement went on to say, “All of our destination spaces (Global Village, Tipi Forest, Forum, Comedy and Science tests etc.) will remain open today for patrons who are already onsite as well as those at our satellite campground at Byron Events Farm. Please relax and enjoy what is open.

“Day patrons are asked not to attend to the festival today while we work on repairs.

“In the coming week Moshtix will be in contact with the ticket holders affected directly, via the email address used to purchase their ticket, for further information on refunds.”

Splendour continued to ask that punters be patient and understand that this is totally out of their hands.

At the moment the festival organisers are still planning to go ahead with days two and three, saying: “We look forward to Saturday and Sunday programming moving ahead as planned.”
