Introducing the quirky indie-pop sounds of Not A Boys Name

You may not be familiar with his name, but chances are you’ve already encountered the work of Dave Jenkins Jr. Having worked alongside such names as Daniel Johns, Vera Blue, Lisa Mitchell, Bertie Blackman, Alex Cameron and Andy Bull, Jenkins Jr. has spent the past number of years establishing himself as a staple of the Australian music scene. Now, with his new project Not A Boys Name, it’s time to acquaint yourself with the man directly.

With the release of his idiosyncratic debut single Hazard Perception Test, Not A Boys Name has made one hell of a first impression.

With the release of his debut single Hazard Perception Test, Not A Boys Name has established himself as one of the most unique and exciting indie acts currently making the rounds.

On the new single, the multi-instrumentalist bounces through a unique concoction of indie-rock and pop to craft a sound that belongs entirely to himself.

The song is about resilience,” says the artist. “Fighting back when you are being stunted by your own fears and insecurities. It’s less about a romantic kind of heart than it is about having heart and having the strength to do what you want to do, the way YOU want to do it”.

These are still early days for Not A Boys Name, but judging by the quality of what we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great material from Dave Jenkins Jr.
