Introducing Rackets

I’ve only spent five hours in Auckland – and all of them took place inside the fair city’s airport on a stop over to Argentina. At the time, I was happy to whittle away the hours smoking ciggies and browsing the duty free stores for perfume, but now I’m full of regret for not getting out and exploring.

Case in point: Another awesome Auckland based band – Rackets. The trio have a bunch of small releases under their belt, including their most recent EP, Gay Boyz. The two minute track of the same name is an absolute belter, short and sweet, full of sunshiney guitar riffs, with a generous sprinkle of rebellious apathy for good measure.

Sonically, they’re a blend of the unexpected madness of the Pixies with the accessible, scream-along garage surf-punk of Californian brothers Wavves.

These naughty boys have supported the Black Lips, are banned from the Interislander (the ferry service that connects the North and South islands of NZ) and apparently murdered their set at Auckland’s Laneway.

Whatever your personal musical preferences may be, Gay Boyz is pretty hard track not to like. Go on, hit play below and listen to it. It’ll be stuck in your head for hours.
