TOPS delicate appreciation for the softer side of percussion and synths, combined with sweet vocals, create the groovy and charming hit of Way To Be Loved.

TOPS are a really chilled out band, robust with synths, soft rock and funky musical progressions. These guys kind of reminded me of the girl tracks from Metronomy and a little bit from Kings of Convenience. They have the right balance of pop and weird, with groove.Don’t get me wrong, these guys can still really get you moving with songs such as Vii Babies which has a killer beat and vintage synths.

Following from their debut album, they’ve just released a second album called Picture You Staring. Their style is a diverse mix of different musical periods that bring me back to a few different decades – all the way back to the 60’s. For instance the song Outside has nice droning pads and synths that remind you of the 70’s or 80’s. The main hook is also reminiscent of an old song that I’m kicking myself trying to remember. Nonetheless theyre’s still a very eclectic sound going on that is an easy listen.

They have a stunning video for their song Way To Be Loved. Complete with dancing dirty hipsters, striped shirts and vintage lighting. I kind of wish I was at that party. The song itself is a great jam, with jazzy indie progressions and tender drums. The guitar lines are clean and smooth, working nicely on top of the sound wall.
