How to buy games from the archived PSP, Vita, and PlayStation 3 stores

Dedicated coders have developed a Mozilla Firefox plug-in that allows users to access the archived PlayStation Store. Here’s how it works.

Hardworking coders have developed a web browser plugin that allows users to access the archived PlayStation stores. ‘Valkyrie PS Store’ uses web pages that have been backed up onto archive.org, a website that routinely saves data from every website ever created, and restored the APIs and HTML files that Sony deleted.

This makes the store not only accessible, but fully functional. This means that players are able to purchase PSP Vita, PSP and Playstation 3 exclusive titles that were removed from the store in October 2020.

This is another positive revelation in a string of good news for PlayStation fans. On 19th of April 2021 the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan announced publicly that they would be extending support for the PlayStation Store on the PSP Vita and Playstation 3.

It was an unexpected turnaround, seemingly undertaken as a direct reaction to public outcry from users who still played on these platforms.

However, the original PSP store will still be shut down on July 2nd.

“Upon further reflection, however, it’s clear that we made the wrong decision here. So today I’m happy to say that we will be keeping the PlayStation Store operational for PS3 and PS Vita devices. PSP commerce functionality will retire on July 2, 2021 as planned.”

According to a Video Game Chronicles analyst, this could mean we see the total of unpurchasable titles decrease from 140 to roughly 35. Sony fans can exhale a sigh of relief and still have some extra breathing room to purchase their favourite classics for the time being.

If you are interested in trying this method you can find the plug-in here, but as it has just been released we cannot attest to its legitimacy or data safety.
