PREMIERE: Like sunlight on a Paris daybed, Ella Clair unveils her charming new single Something

A warm voice with an old soul, Ella Clair’s refreshingly relaxed new single Something is a reminder not to overthink things and take a chance on that cutie on your daily commute.

The 19-year-old singer-songwriter has been bouncing between Sydney, London and Melbourne for the past number of years, gardening a sound that is smooth, straight, and a little jazzy.

Ella Clair’s sultry, jazz-laden new single Something subtly captures coming-of-age nuances and the thrill of teenage crushes.

After high school, Ella Clair moved to London to pull pints and explore the world. During this time, she chronologically categorised her impressively large catalogue of tunes birthed in her teen bedroom. Her move back to Sydney was, therefore, driven by plans to record her debut EP My Red, Your Red with the aim of utilising as many female artists as possible.

The new EP was recorded at A Sharp Studios with a 13-piece band, including horns, strings, and double bass. As a result, Something soars on Ella’s smooth falsettos and cheeky lyrics, with an authentic street-jazz backdrop.

Ella’s ability to lyrically capture coming-of-age nuances is subtly complemented by the rich layering of horns, strings and a heartbeat-like rhythm. The bopping keys drive the song into an uplifting, optimistic realm of clouds and sweet things. It’s something to listen to on a daybed in Paris with soft sunlight wilting down.

As her dream builds, the tight soul-inspired production draws you in, though it’s Ella’s lyrical integrity and inquisitive imagery that keeps you enthralled. If Something is anything to go by, we will be keeping a very close eye on Ella Clair and her upcoming EP My Red, Your Red.
