Lost American’s new remix of Virago is a sprawling sonic journey

In January, when American-born, Barcelona-based outfit Lost American (headed by Chris Kelley) released their latest single Virago, we were immediately immersed in their electronic post-punk sounds. The track arrived alongside a video clip that immediately established an exploration into themes of technology and identity.

Then, last month, after some cutting and editing, Kelley released a tighter, more succinct version of the clip. With that clip’s release, the track was given another life, and once again, we found ourselves immersed in the band’s music. Now, with the release of a new remix from Orto Grut, the track has been reimagined yet again.

With the release of a new remix from Orto Grut, Barcelona-based outfit Lost American have completely reimagined their January single Virago.

Throughout the new remix, Orto Grut accompanies Lost American on a journey through sprawling electronica, dark post-punk, and disorientating disco, crafting a vast soundscape that’s guaranteed to leave you hanging on every note. The new remix is a complete deconstruction of the original track and its accompanying video clips, depicting a situation in which the machine takes over.

The result is an epic sonic journey that traverses through myriad sonic territories. Across its huge seven-and-a-half-minute duration, a vortex of different sounds is created. By the time it reaches its conclusion, you’ll have been roped in completely.

Every incarnation of Virago thus far has been great, so here’s hoping we won’t have to wait long to hear what Lost American deliver next. For now, do yourself a favour and listen to the new remix above.
