Mac the Knife share new single ‘Less Than Familiar’ ahead of EP ‘In The Shadow Of It All’

Fanfare around Mac the Knife’s imminent EP reaches fever pitch with the release of latest single Less Than Familiar.

Mac the Knife have today (March 1) released Less Than Familiar, the final taste of their upcoming EP In The Shadow Of It All.

A thrashing, heavy indie-rock cut, the new single sees the five-piece confront the swirling anxieties and exhilarating uncertainties of navigating your early twenties.

Along the way, lead singer Bryn Parish Chapman delivers searing vocals alongside pulsating drums and screechy guitar melodies. “You’re the echo of a life I used to know,” Chapman sings, “I can’t recognise this life bleeding out before my eyes.”

The single is accompanied by an official music video, which was directed by Roger Stonehouse and follows the band during a black-lit jam session with interspersed images of red apples, flower bouquets and skulls. Watch that below.

Less Than Familiar is the latest in a string of singles to be lifted from Mac the Knife’s imminent EP, with the band previously releasing the tracks Labour in Vain, Blood of My Blood and Curb My Bite.

Titled In The Shadow Of It All, the upcoming EP will mark the band’s first since Silvertongue, which arrived in 2018. That project featured the standout track Australia, which Mac the Knife performed live for Happy in 2018.

Silvertongue saw Mac the Knife named among the finalists of Needle In The Hay in 2019, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Nice Biscuit and Bilby.

“We really wanted to put something out that we could be proud of,” the band told Happy Mag of their debut effort, and that certainly was the case.

Outside of Mac the Knife, Chapman forms part of the cast of the Australian Netflix series Heartbreak High, the second season of which will premiere in April.
