Midnight Tea Party’s new album Massilia is a bizarre cosmic journey

Based out of Sydney’s inner-west, Midnight Tea Party aren’t quite like any other band currently making the rounds. For the past number of years, the quintet have been oozing out a cosmic blend of sounds that will dig its way into your psyche and stay there for weeks.

Now, with their new album Massilia, the band have delivered a truly unique and hypnotising collection of songs. Enter with caution, this album is absolutely nuts.

On their new album Massilia, Sydney five-piece Midnight Tea Party will take you on a sprawling journey through some bizarre, far-away universe.

Over the course of the album’s eight-track duration, Midnight Tea Party dance through an infectious concoction of rock, gypsy and dub to craft a sound that belongs entirely to themselves. Entering into Massilia is like entering into some bizarre, far-away world – you’ll be left gazing in awe at all that surrounds you.

Album opener Mastermunk will ease you in with otherworldly synths, before exploding into an all-out assault of deeply infectious grooves. From the rapid-fire beats of Tootsie to the woozy down-beat rhythms of Heaven’s Gate, Massilia never sits in one place for too long. By the time the album reaches its conclusion, you’ll have been roped in myriad directions.

The result of this strange brew of sounds is one of the most dynamic listening experiences we’ve come across in some time.
