If you could paint a picture with the sounds of Brisbane band Mitzi, it would include plenty of beers, possibly a catamaran, a secluded beach and the journey of a young summer romance, giving the Corona ads “From Where You’d Rather Be” a run for their money. With songs like Who Will Love You Now and Falling, Mitzi gives us a fresh take on indie summer vibes, just in time for the sun to (finally) come out.
The band consists of four smoking hot (and evidently talented) musicians, and was originally started by Jad Lee and Dominiqe Bird, who were shortly followed by Cale Suesskow and Charlie Murdoch. And you know what they say, four brains are better than one. (Is that a saying?)
Their debut album, Truly Alive, was mixed by Ash Workman, who has worked alongside the likes of the Klaxons, Metronomy and Summer Camp. Mitzi have been signed to the unstoppable Future Classic, which saw them playing round the US earlier this year. From there, aside from playing at Splendour in the Grass, they’ve supported an ever growing list of notable acts such as Whitest Boy Alive, Little Dragon, Foster the People and Aussie dance duo, Bag Raiders. Along with constant praise from fans around the world, MTV has raved that, “what Cut Copy does for new wave, Mitzi does for disco.” In early October the boys were stoked to announce they are supporting none other than influential disco band Chic and Nile Rogers in December at Brisbane’s Tivoli Theatre. But if you can’t make it to the Sunshine State, don’t fret – Summer will surely see them making their way round the nation…
