New York City has officially declared January 20th ‘David Bowie Day’

In light of the tragic death of the legendary David Bowie and the subsequent, unprecedented outpour of tributes around the world, New York City have pulled out the big guns, officially declaring January 20th ‘David Bowie Day’.

The announcement was made via Bowie’s official Facebook, stating that New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio had made the gesture official:

“…Also, it was announced today that New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has proclaimed today, January 20, 2016 in the City of New York as David Bowie Day. The proclamation will be read tonight at the curtain call of the final performance of the sold-out run of Lazarus, the New York Theater Workshop production conceived and co-created by Bowie.”

Bowie’s Blackstar, his final artistic breath, has gone to #1 in multiple countries around the world including the US, UK, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland since it’s release on January 8th, just days before his death.
