Potato? Banana? Celery? This interactive doggo chart has revealed New York City’s weirdest pooch names

New York City’s Department of Mental Health and Hygiene requires all new pooch owners to get their furry friends licensed, at a small price.

While 80% of dogs are still without a license, the chart shows that 87,031 are currently licensed, making New York one incredibly cute city.

A recent data project from New York City has managed to come up with a chart as a result from all their pet data, making waves in the world of social media.

Why is it making headlines, you ask? Well, when the government releases a map of popular dog names sorted by neighbourhood, it comes into question how this can actually be a priority amongst all the current Trump-related chaos in the US.

The chart reveals dogs’ named after various fruits, vegetables, spices and other foods as well as being named after other animals, such as Bear (308) and Tiger (104) according to 2016 data.

According to the law, every dog over four months old must be licensed, with all licensing fees being donated towards local dog shelters and Animal Control services. This also makes it a heck of a lot easier to find man’s best friend if they ever run away from home.

Our favourite names we found on the chart, were: Jesus (2), Potato (17), Wee (2), Mr. (95) and Gizmo (354).

Check it out here.
