NSW records nine new Omicron cases linked to Newcastle nightclub

NSW recorded nine new Omicron COVID-19 cases as the Newcastle nightclub cluster grows to 84.

Health authorities have said several of the cases linked to the club are likely to be the Omicron variant.

A warning has been issued about the club, The Argyle House on Wharf Road after the numbers exploded overnight.

The Argyle House famously sports a sign above it that says “Wish you were here”. Umm… bet you wish you weren’t.

The government are urging members of the public who have attended the club to be tested urgently. Here’s hoping they don’t just get back out on the d-floor with a head full of sniffles.

People who have attended the nightclub where a prom-themed event was being held, between 9pm on Wednesday, December 8 and 3am Thursday, December 9 are considered close contacts and should follow the government recommendations.

Three of the party animals who attended the club are thought to be linked to a boat party on the Sydney harbour two weeks ago, talk about party fever.

As the silly season approaches it’s not unusual for party hoppers to be out and about but it’s important that people stay safe, as tricky as it might be to keep your mask up when you’re 3 eggnogs (and rum) deep.

NSW has recorded 536 new COVID-19 infections and zero deaths overnight but despite numbers rising once again, the government still plans to go ahead with eased restrictions on Wednesday.

As of tomorrow, masks will no longer be required in outdoor settings and are only necessary on public transport and planes, at airports, and for indoors front-of-house hospitality staff who are not fully vaccinated.

There will be no limit to the number of visitors allowed in your home, no person limit for major recreation facilities and sex services will re-open.

Looks like it will be a very hot Christmas after all.
