Happy Mag’s top ten from BIGSOUND 2022

BIGSOUND 2022 came and went with a bang. With our ears still ringing, and the smell of the airport still lingering in our nostrils, we take a moment to look at a few of the highlights from Meeanjin’s biggest music event of the year.

Revelling in the afterglow of the biggest musical event in Brisbane, we just want to give a huge shout-out to BIGSOUND, for giving us the BEST time of our lives!

In the lead-up to the highlights of our BIGSOUND takeover tomorrow, and because we’re in love with Aussie music, we thought we’d give thanks to all the amazing bands that graced the many stages across this year’s event. So, without further ado, let’s jump in and take a look at how our favourite acts captured BIGSOUND!

The Rions bigsound

#1 – Chloe Dadd

Sydney songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Chloe Dadd combines dream-pop and hooky guitar riffs, with fiercely-addictive beats and killer vocals. Chloe’s set was bloody electric, to say the least!

#2 – The Rions

Sydney legends, The Rions have certainly earned the title of “ones to watch.” The indie/alternative quartet is tipped to be the next Kooks. That’s right, you heard it here first! Their sets at the festival garnered a jam-packed crowd, and kept us chanting along to their stellar tunes late into the night.

#3 – The Terrys

Gerringong-hailing four-piece, The Terrys, affectionately dubbed “Tezzas” treated us to an epic show at Fortitude Valley’s Summa House, playing all of their beloved hits, as well as their striking new track, Situation 99.

#4 – VOIID

Meanjin/Brisbane-based VOIID has well and truly cemented its spot in the Australian punk scene. Their performances at BIGSOUND were nothing short of electrifying!

#5 – Mr Rhodes

Lismore-hailing rapper and producer, Mr Rhodes is an alchemist, bringing together sounds both ancient and futuristic. We absolutely loved witnessing his sonic magic live!

#6 – Death by Denim

With signature honey vocals, dreamy synths, and vibrant guitar riffs, what’s not to love? After seeing them rock the stage at BIGSOUND, it’s no surprise that Death by Denim is quickly becoming one of Australia’s most treasured indie bands.

#7 – Tulliah

Fast-rising indie singer-songwriter, Tulliah from Mornington Peninsula, Victoria has an innate ability to let her heartfelt experiences and melodies seamlessly wash over you. After getting a taste of her forthcoming album at BIGSOUND, we can’t wait too see what she has in store for us next!

#8 – Gold Fang

Rapper Gold Fang hails from reggae royalty. Across is epic BIGSOUND shows, he certainly brought the new sound of reggae mixed with dance hall beats to our lucky ears!

#9 – Big Skeez

Melodically-driven Afro Swing combined with the sounds of Western Sydney, Big Skeez deftly showcases a vivid and irrepressible brand of hip hop, and we can’t get enough of it.

#10 – C.O.F.F.I.N

Children of Finland Fighting in Norway (C.O.F.F.I.N) are a 4-piece hard rock band that hails from the skateboarding shores of Sydney. To say they brought the house down during their ferocious set would be a total understatement, as these legends generated more buzz from their packed-out crowd than we’ve seen in a long while!
