Kanye West wears a ‘White Lives Matter’ tee at Fashion Week

Kanye West courts controversy at Paris Fashion Week, dividing fans left, right, and center with his attire.

Kanye West has had a busy week. First, he hit the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week, in his first ever modeling job for Balenciaga. As if that wasn’t surprising enough, he then set to the task of launching Season 9 of his fashion brand, Yeezy.

The rapper/fashionista wore a controversial long-sleeved tee with the slogan “White Lives Matter” printed on the back. Images of the live-streamed event show West wearing the black shirt with white text alongside US conservative commentator, Candace Owens, who was dressed in a reversed black print on a white version of the shirt.

Before Kanye West debuted the new collection, he took to the floor to deliver a welcome message to the full room of spectators: “I am Ye, and everyone here knows that I am the leader. You can’t manage me,” he said.

Models were also seen wearing the divisive garment at the launch, which reportedly featured an image of John Paul II, together with the phrase, “Seguiremos Tu Ejemplo,” which translates in English to “We Will Follow Your Example.” The slogan on the back reads, “White Lives Matter.” No official response has been made by Kanye as to what the slogan means.
