Ouija Beats

Ouija Beats – the number one spot for Sydney’s electro-maestros to show off their spooky Halloween getups. And music. There’s music too.

Halloween makes me feel so many emotions all at once. Firstly, I’m happy, because it’s an excuse to dress up as something or someone, and show off the fact that you have a hot glue gun and can afford to waste felt.

Secondly, I’m sad because it trivialises the art of costume parties – the increasing popularity of this one holiday where you have to dress up means that numbers of costume parties throughout the year are steadily declining, all the pressure landing on one day of the year. Lastly, I feel spooked, because, y’know. Halloween.

background

So if you aren’t violently religious and you’re looking for somewhere to show off your best Ben Affleck in Gone Girl (a very simple costume that will require some explaining) or your 1981 Toronto Maple Leafs legend Darryl Sittler getup, then check out the lineup for Ouija Beats – it might be the spooky venue that your October 31st shenanigans might just need!

Haunting the festivities will be Cosmo’s Midnight, and my guess is that the Sydney based electronic duo are gonna be kitted out in a costume particularly reflective of their late-night stage name. Not sure whether to put money on the twins dressing up as bald men flailing their arms or as Rachel McAdams and Owen Wilson.

The two will appear beside fellow Sydney-sound pioneer Basenji, who won’t be dressed as the very specific breed of central African canine, but will almost certainly be head to toe in his little drummer boy outfit. Panama will be rocking the white straw hat that he shares a title with, Northeast Party House will come as the cast of (insert any American college film here) and Willow Beats will be dressed as they normally do and still be mistaken for rocking up dressed as Wookies.

Ouija Beats will be taking place on Friday the 31st of October (duh) at Luna Park. You’re probably now wondering “shit, I live in (insert any disgustingly gentrified, pretentious blog reading, inner western suburb of Sydney here)! I’m gonna have to trek it all the way to Milson’s Point dressed as President Jack Nicholson in Mars Attacks! Lucky for you, New York cab company UBER is shouting you a private ride there – read up more on the Ouija Beats page for a free $40 cab ride and avoid being dressed up as something stupid on public transport.
