PREMIERE: Emberville explore dark territories in their trippy new video

Paying homage to vintage horror, Perth-based three-piece Emberville have unveiled their trippy new clip for whatsthepointanymore. The dark yet frighteningly euphoric new video, edited by the band themselves, sits perfectly alongside their unique take on EDM.

Following the departure of band members, Emberville have struck new gold with their own dark, trippy euphoria on whatsthepointanymore.

This is a band that has drastically evolved in the past few years, and they are here to make their new sound heard. With an Australian and Indonesian tour under their belts, the former heavy rockers know what they are doing, and it is clearly evident in the workmanship of the video.

The new sound incorporates elements of hip hop, trap, and drum and bass, exploding into a raw EDM confession.

The band were interested in going down a less traditional path with the clip, delivering an unnerving yet pleasurable experience for viewers, inspired by films like Donnie Darko and Pans Labyrinth. There is definitely elements of schizophrenia here as the clip jumps and flashes between scenes of darkness and viscera, evoking themes of vintage horror which are a delight.

The dark, searching lyricism paints a picture of the aftermath of the party lifestyle, detailing a night of incredible highs followed by a vivid self-examination.

The repetition of the line “what’s the point anymore” adds to the frenetic anxiety of the film, culminating in a shooting amidst the rapid-fire visuals and powerful rap vocals. The questioning is drilled into the listener and reverberates throughout the images of the clip.

Distorted squelchy guitars bounce off the aggressive rap vocals, heightening the intensity and creating some sublime audiovisual moments.

Emberville are delving into new waters, and their creative flair will surely make it a worthwhile venture.
