PREMIERE: The Barren Spinsters take you speed dating on West Of The Happiness

With a string of consistently great EPs and singles under their collective belt, Canberra-based duo The Barren Spinsters have been kicking around the Aussie music scene for a few years now. In that time, they’ve shaped a unique identity for themselves; they belt out killer tunes, and they’re also pretty funny fellas.

Their new video for West Of The Happiness is a prime example of this. It should go without saying that we’re stoked to be premiering it for you today.

On their new video for West Of The Happiness, Canberra two-piece The Barren Spinsters navigate the world of speed dating to form a holy musical union.

Never ones to shy away from taking the piss out of themselves, the new video clip follows frontman Brendon Houlahan as he makes the rounds of a speed dating program for local musicians. Houlahan antagonises his prospective partners and gets a few smacks in the head for his troubles. Eventually, he encounters an equally-bruised Matt Tennant, and together they form the ideal band.

The track itself is a southern-tinged slice of blues-rock that flaunts the band’s penchant for crafting infectious alternative gems. With twangy vocal hooks, layers of jangly guitars, and air-tight percussion, we guarantee this new track will be stuck in your head for weeks.

West Of The Happiness is the first taste of The Barren Spinsters upcoming debut full-length album Ten Steps to Cynical Thinking, and judging by what we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality tunes.
