Stephen King calls Trump a “horrible person”

The ongoing FBI investigation into Donald Trump has prompted The Shining author, Stephen King to share his thoughts on the ex-President, calling him a “horrible person.”

Amid allegations that former US president, Donald Trump illegally removed classified documents from the White House, which led to the unprecedented FBI-conducted search of his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida on August 8, Stephen King has called him out for being a “horrible president” and “horrible person.”

King told The Times on Sunday: “I think he actually engaged in criminal behavior and, certainly, I felt that he was a sociopath who tried to overturn the American democracy not out of any political wish of his own but because he could not admit that he had lost.”

King went on to share his thoughts on potential fascism in right-wing politics: “There is a strong right-wing, a political right wing in America, and they have a megaphone in some of the media, they’re not fascists but they’re hard right-wingers. They’re certainly climate change deniers, so that is a real problem.”

This isn’t the first time the author has criticized Trump publicly while he was in office, or after. In 2019, King spoke out about Trump’s border policies, after Trump announced that border agents would begin raids to remove people who are in the United States illegally. He made a remark about the President’s strategies resembling Hitler’s.

“First, you stoke hatred and fear of minorities,” said King. “Then you round them up and put them in camps. Next, you send out raiding parties to get those who have been driven into hiding, the armbands come next right?”

King did not actually specify the type of armband he was alluding to, but given the Nazis did notably enforce Jewish people to wear badges during the Holocaust, it is not hard to read between the lines.
