The Pulse Doppler by ThorpyFX is a beautiful Lovetone reimagination

The Pulse Doppler is a collaboration between ThorpyFX and Lovetone founder Dan Coggins. It’s easy to fall under the spell of this lush modulation machine.

Family-run, British pedal company ThorpyFX has released its first reimagined Lovetone pedal, the Pulse Doppler, and we’re excited.

Taking inspiration from the Lovetone Doppelganger, it’s a phaser, vibrato and tremolo with stereo output options, all in one sturdy unit. And now, it’s overtaking YouTube with demos all over the world.

If you are a pedal lover, you surely know of Lovetone. Founded in 1995 by Dan Coggins, these pedals have been used by Metallica, Radiohead, U2, Led Zeppelin, The Smiths and more, with some pedals fetching upwards of $2,000 AUD on the second-hand market. Coggins left the business in 2008 but has brought his talents to ThorpyFX to reimagine one of his most lauded designs. Let’s look into all the exciting options on this brand new pedal.

The five rotary knobs control Depth, Rate, Blend, Enhance, and Manual. Whilst Depth, Rate and Blend should be self-explanatory, the Manual knob sets the notch frequencies. The lowest frequencies are to the far left and the highest to the far right. The Enhance knob controls resonance and feedback.

The left toggle switch controls the timing of the notch filters, in tandem or in a ‘figure 8’ timing, and the other toggle switch moves between invert, pulse or normal.

The two LEDs indicate each notch filter’s modulation sweep — the timing will change if you switch to figure 8 — and the two footswitches change between vibrato/tremolo and phaser and turn the effect on and off.

When connecting to the stereo outputs there are two options, a wet/dry mix or an effect only sound when pressing the left Vib/Phase footswitch.

This is a great sign of things to come from a collaboration between a wholesome family pedal company and one of history most iconic pedal designers. For more info head over to Thorpyfx.com.
