William Shatner cringes saying ‘The Masked Singer’ seemed like a good idea at the time

William Shatner’s turn on the ‘The Masked Singer’ captivated audiences as he took to the stage in an awkward and elaborate Knight costume.

The show has seen the likes of Tori Spelling, La Toya Jackson, Rumer Willis, Gladys Knight, T Pain, and Kelly Osbourne. Last night’s offering came from none other than William Shatner, who has firmly established himself iconic cult status, with his role as Captain James Kirk, on Star Trek.

Shatner has been known to release an album or two, Seeking Major Tom and Shatner Claus: The Christmas Album, surprised the audience nonetheless when he took off his helmet.

When asked about his turn on the Masked Singer and why he chose the Knight costume in particular, which looked extremely difficult to wear, Shatner said:

Well, I don’t remember choosing it, but it seemed like a good idea. Everything seemed like a good idea at the time until you do it. It’s like declaring war. You declare war, and then the moment you declare war, everything is different, and nothing is what you planned. I couldn’t speak, couldn’t hear, couldn’t breathe. Like everybody else that I know who has done the show, the performance is a lot less than what you had hoped for because of the awkwardness of the wardrobe. But, at the same time, that’s part of the fun of the show.

With regards to watching his performance, he doesn’t think he can bear it: I don’t know whether I can stand it. I usually don’t watch my performances anywhere, let alone on a thing that probably went to hell.

Don’t be too hard on yourself Shatner, if it was fun at the time, that’s all that counts.
