Former Vampire Weekend bandmates Rostam and Ezra have been working together again

Speaking on the latest episode of Kyle Meredith With…, Rostam Batmanglij revealed that he and former Vampire Weekend bandmate Ezra Koenig have been working on new music together.

Unfortunately, whether it’s for Rostam’s solo project or for Vampire Weekend is undisclosed.

Batmanglij is known for being a notorious collaborator. He has worked with the likes of Dirty Projectors, Lykke Li, Hamilton Leithauser and HAIM, but it’s with his former bandmate Koenig that he feels most comfortable.

Of the collaboration with Koenig, Rostam said:

“I think it’s going to come out at some point. Our creative relationship continues just as we said it would, and our friendship endures.”

You can listen to the entire interview via Spotify below. Rostam opens up about his love for U2, Madonna and Bob Dylan, collaborating with Hamilton Leithauser, the connection between politics and music, and what it’s like starting over as a solo artist.

Rostam’s latest single, In a River, was released last month. It’s a mandolin-heavy ballad that really establishes Batmanglij’s credibility as a solo artist; the single is very distinctive from anything Vampire Weekend ever released.
